Rex Rekstad I was introduced to glass in the arts at the 1967 Worlds fair in Monrtreal.  The influence of works by Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova, and Calder's steel monumental structures surfaced years later in my own work and my interest with metal sculptor David Smith.  Growing up in upstate New York I found every opportunity to visit Corning and study the defining works that would emerge in the next two decades. Influenced by my father I initially studied Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Physics at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.  My interests pulled me into the art department and I incorporated sculpture, computer science, and video into my art. I was in the pioneering classes of computer mediated art at the university and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Art in 1989. Post graduation I built a successful career in graphic design, computer based training, and instructional design. My work with Dr. Michael Allen in emerging adult learning theory executed in business training solutions lead to an executive level position within Dr. Allen's company. As I built my career in technology I continued my studio work in metal sculpture, computer mediated art, photography, and glass blowing. Currently I work as an inventor, hold one awarded patent, consult in technology,  and innovate in glass.  I've attained international recognition in my annually donated 70 piece glass editions to Humor to Fight the Tumor, a Minneapolis event that raises money for the American Brain Tumor Association.
